Wednesday, November 7 – Community Edge Training

CommunityEdge is Manitoba’s accredited CED certification program, teaching EDOs practical skills and strategies to help Manitoba communities build strength, stability and resilience. The program consists of eight modules and EDAM will offer individual modules in conjunction with our EDAM forums based on member demand.

9:30-12:30 Module 1: Introduction to Community Economic Development

  • An overview of what is CED / steps to set up a CED Program / assessing community readiness

1:30-4:30 p.m. Module 4: Finance & Governance

  • Municipal Government Responsibilities and Powers, Municipal Budgeting and Land Use Planning.

Thursday, November 8 – 1:00 p.m. – Major Community Events

A chance to hear from local people that make a tremendous contribution to their communities through money raised from events, or have hands on knowledge on the benefits to the community from dollars raised.

An opportunity to learn what projects have already been developed and delivered to encourage youth to consider entrepreneurship as a career path. Project coordinators from the respective projects will provide a short intro and then be available to answer individual questions at their station.

Friday, November 9 – 10:15 a.m. – It’s all in the Pitch! The Thrill of Volunteer Recruitment – Volunteer Manitoba

Volunteer recruitment can be labor intensive and a targeted approach maximizes recruitment efforts. Targeted volunteer recruitment involves crafting a message to gain the attention of a specific audience and addressing their questions and needs. It’s all in the Pitch will outline the motivators of two age demographics and how to use solid job descriptions and apply marketing theory to showcase your volunteer opportunities in a way to appeal most to your audience. Practice what you’ve learned to develop a pitch for one of your volunteer opportunities.
